Children & Youth Forum 2015

On behalf of the UN Major Group for Children & Youth (MGCY), we are pleased to invite you to the Children & Youth Forum and UNISDR Pre-Forum Workshop, as part of the official public program of the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR). 


This event will take place in beautiful Sendai, Japan, from March 11th to 18th 2015, previously devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. It is organized and led by young people actively engaged in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and will provide an unique opportunity to develop your skills, strengths and ability to lead efforts in reducing risk and building resilience locally, nationally, regionally and globally – all while having a whole lot of fun!
The objectives are to:

• Showcase the priorities and commitments of Children and Youth for the next era of DRR;
• Equip the participants with skills and knowledge to take actions on DRR;
• Develop concrete DRR action plans for Children and Youth; and
• Facilitate Children and Youth meaningful participation and contribution in the 3WCDRR.

There is no cost for participating in the Children & Youth Forum, however you will need to cover the cost of your own accommodation, transport to Sendai and meals. The Organizing Committee can arrange accommodation for up to 200 youth participants in a group facility, as well as, some meals and transport between the venue and accommodation. This will cost a maximum of $250 USD. Another registration form for this accommodation package will be shared in late January. Please note that this offer to stay with us is highly recommended, as it will provide you an rare opportunity to meet and connect with young people from all over the world. 

In addition, it is anticipated that accommodation options within Sendai will be limited during this period due to the high number of visitors attending the WCDRR, therefore we encourage you to accept this offer.
