EAST AFRICAN ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION 2015


The East African Community Secretariat has organized the EAC students essay writing competition year 2015. The Essay writing competition is intended to broaden knowledge of the school going population on EAC activities. The topic for year 2015 in English is “Why is political stability important for the intergration of East African Community Partner States” In Kiswahili is “Jadili umuhimu wa utulivu wa kisiasa katika mtangamano wa Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki.''

Prizes:

1. Regional Winners will be awarded during the EAC Summit of EAC Heads of States on 30th Nov 2015

  • Best Essay Writer will be awarded a certificate and cash prize of USD 750
  • The 1st runners-up will be awarded a certificate and cash prize of USD 650
  • The 2nd runners-up will be awarded a certificate and cash prize of USD 600
  •  They will also tour Tanzania after the Summit 
2. The best school will be awarded school equipments worth US$1,200.
 

3. The five best National essay writers (from each country) will be awarded certificates, cash prizes and will go on a sponsored tour in East Africa. Cash Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st Prize- USD 300 
  • 2nd Prize- USD 250 
  • 3rd Prize- USD 200 
  • 4th Prize- USD 150 
  • 5th Prize- USD 120

 4. Five other winners will be awarded the prize of USD 75 in the following categories:

  • Gender 
  • Rural/Urban 
  • Persons with special needs 
  • Language (Kiswahili, French and English) 
  • Remote areas

  
Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to all students in Form One to Form Four in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Submission Guidelines:

  • The length of the essay should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words,
  • The essay can be written in English, French or Kiswahili,
  • The essay should be in their own hand writing
  • Students information such as name, sex, class, school address, region Country and title of the essay should be written in the cover page,
  • The essay should be written on white A4 lined/ruled papers (Similar to the draft pads),
  • Written only on one side of the paper,

  • The Head of Schools to certify that the essay is student’s own work

 How to Participate: 

The students are required to begin researching on the topic prior writing and submitting to their Heads of Schools by 15th June, 2015. The Heads of Schools will then be expected to constitute a marking panel which will choose best essay of the school. The panel should go through the essays (Please do not mark the essays) and choose three essays to be submitted to Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Vocational Training by July 30th 2015.

  1. Hi, I'd like to inquire on assistance with regards to the winners. where can we access the info about the winners. my sister was informed she won but the school is being very unresponsive with the information
