Youth4Change’ is a project run by Plan
International Tanzania and Plan UK which brings together youth activists from 4
countries, including Tanzania, to advocate on ending child marriage and Female
Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Around 5 youth from Tanzania will form
a panel which will come up with an advocacy and communications strategy on how
to raise awareness on the need to end child marriage and female genital
mutilation in the country.
Core activities:
They will engage with social media,
speak at events (which they need to identify themselves) and advocate with
policy makers to raise their views on ending child marriage and FGM.
There are youth from 3 other countries
participating in this global project so there will be plenty of opportunities
to engage with them online, as well as two face to face international meetings.
Important Information
We request that you are able to offer
about 5 hours a week to this role and to be able to travel to Plan’s office in
Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam, on a regular basis (at least weekly) to touch base.
This is a project funded by the UK
government and provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated young person
to get their views heard on gender equality.
Interested? If so, please write
to Plan answering these questions:
• What do you think leads to so many girls in Tanzania getting married before they are 18 or undergoing female genital mutilation? Is it a problem? If so, why?
• What should be done to stop child marriage and FGM?
• Who needs to take action to make change?
• What can youth do to make a difference?
• Tell us the top 3 things you would do to make a difference if you are selected to be on the Youth Panel.
• Tell us about you and why you are the right person for the role. What experience do you have advocating gender issues, what skills will you bring to campaigning and why do you want to be involved?
